Slightly Mad Studios’ Andy Tudor, Creative Director behind the WMD-powered Project CARS title, was recently interviewed by two magazines, sharing some new inside info on the title’s console side of development.
Among other interesting details, the interviews focus on the aspect that Project CARS is coming to Nintendo’s WiiU as Slightly Mad Studios is bringing the simulation genre to Nintendo’s new platform:
Among one of the unique features of the WiiU is its controller and Project CARS will be making full use of it as Andy explains:
The controller makes all the difference really. The ability to use it as a gyroscopic steering wheel, your track map, your rear-view mirror, your telemetry screen, an input device for changing your pit strategy, menu navigation etc.. that’s where you’ll be seeing the unique, enhanced experience that the gamepad offers over the standard Microsoft and Sony controllers. Gamers concerned over the digital triggers shouldn’t be – you can play Project CARS with keyboard keys that are inherently digital and we do input filtering to mimic the same effect as a pedal or analog trigger.
Racers who are looking forward to the next gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft can rejoice as well as SMS is also currently pursuing to move to the new platforms:
Both consoles are extremely exciting and bring a host of new functionality and opportunities so yes we are actively pursuing both Xbox One and PlayStation 4
On the consoles, Project CARS will meet the genre heavyweights Forza Motorsport & Gran Turismo and SMS is confident that their much anticipated title will stack up well against the competition, offering several features that have yet to be added to the other two flagship titles:
That’s where our focus is – continuing to improve and innovate how the game feels in terms of physics, handling, feedback, tire model, aerodynamics etc.., how the game looks in terms of lighting, weather effects, special effects, and how the game plays in terms of its content and features. If you directly compare Project CARS right now with the competition, we’re in a great place with more tracks that Gran Turismo, pit stops and weather that Forza is still catching up with, stunning visuals with native support for 4K gaming and Oculus Rift, and a compelling endless career experience that mimics the choices and opportunities that influence a real driver’s career
