DSD STARTS TAKING ORDERS FOR NEW LOAD CELL PEDALS
Mar 06, 2014
Derek Spears Design (DSD) has gained recognition in the sim racing hardware world for his excellent button boxes and shifters. Now Derek is branching out even further with his first pedal set called the DSD Wilwood Load Cells Pedals. As the name implies, the pedals use real off-the-shelf Wilwood racing pedals, attached to a pedal rack, and utilize a 100kg brake load cell. Should be a workout for your leg! But not too much. It’s adjustable and sends a full 4096 steps of resolution to your sim.
The gas and clutch use million-life-cycle potentiometers and the entire system is connected to the DSD 12-bit controller. The pedals are pre-mounted on a 3/4″ (19mm) thick plate of anti-static UHMV composite and connect to your PC via standard USB port.
DSD states that these pedals represent three years of work and by how clean they look, I’m not surprised. On February 22nd the pricing was set at $795 for US orders and $895 for international orders (shipping something this heavy isn’t cheap).
Last month, Derek started taking names of people interested in the pedals on his website. Those people were rewarded when an email showed up in their inbox on March 2nd saying they could purchase the pedals at a one time “OMG WTF” price of $495 for US customers and $595 for international customers. The first batch was sold in 39 minutes.
For those who missed out, Derek said (via the iRacing Hardware forums) that the next batch will be sold at $100 off the final price, so if you’re interested, you better sign up at his site and check your inbox (including spam box) religiously. I’m sure they’ll go fast again.
