SimRaceWay To Develop Indycar Game
|
Ignite Skill Gaming’s SimRaceWay brand has announced to be working on an official Indycar series title. The company has signed a licensing agreement with Indycar, allowing them to create titles with all cars & tracks of both the Indycar Series and Indy Lights, not just for the current season but future years as well. The iconic Indy 500 race is part of the agreement as well, other than that info on the new title is still rather rare. The current SimRaceWay game is based on ISI’s trusted gMotor 2 engine, it remains to be seen whether the new Indycar title will be using the rather aged engine as well. |
Either way, SimRaceWay will have plenty of feedback to work with as multiple Indycar Champion & Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti will be involved in the title’s development. The Scottsman recently tested SimRaceWay’s virtual DW-12 Indycar racer that will also be featured in the Indycar title. One detail known about the new title is that it will use SimRaceWay’s “Skillquant” technology, described as “The world’s first highly-accurate, real-time skill quantification system” that will ensure close online racing competition. |
SimRaceWay – Audi R18 TDI Added
|
Ignite Skill Gaming has added the newest car to their free-to-play SimRaceWay title as the Audi R18 TDI is now available for purchase. Audi’s Diesel LMP challenger that won the 12 Hours of Sebring last Saturday isn’t just the newest addition to the gMotor 2-powered title, it’s also by far the most expensive one. While most add-on cars for SimRaceWay sell for cents or a few dollars, the R18 TDI costs $16 to drive. That makes it more expensive than any content item for iRacing, Junior membership on Project CARS or 20 DLC cars for Forza Motorsport 4. The base content of SimRaceWay is free for everyone to try, giving players access to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X as well as Mid Ohio & Zandvoort. Additional content is available for purchase with prices ranging from a few cents to several dollars. |
SimRaceWay – Mclaren MP4-12C GT3 Available
|
Ignite Skill Gaming has added the newest car to their free-to-play SimRaceWay title as the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 is now available for purchase. Part of SimRaceWay’s licensing deal with Mclaren, the MP4-12C GT3 can be bought for $4.32 Powered by a 3.8 liter V8 bi-turbo engine, the MP4-12C is build to the FIA GT3 regulations based on the MP4-12C road car. The car made its competition debut in the British GT Championship last year and went on to compete in various events, including the Spa 24 Hours race. The car became an instant success as all 20 cars built for the 2012 season have already been sold to customers. The base content of SimRaceWay is free for everyone to try, giving players access to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X as well as Mid Ohio & Zandvoort. Additional content is available for purchase with prices ranging from a few cents to several dollars. The title puts an emphasis on online racing, using a real-time skill matching system to offer close racing. Like SimRaceWay’s past website that was based on rFactor & other simulations, the new title will again be offering paid online races where players have to pay an entry fee to compete, free online events are available as well. |
Ignite Opens SimRaceway Performance Center
|
Back in July, Ignite Skill Gaming (owners of rFactorcentral & SimRaceWay) announced to have acquired $7.5 million dollars of funding to turn SimRaceWay into an online racing title. The company isn’t stopping there though as Ignite has announced a new partnership with the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School at the Infineon Raceway in California. The facility is being re-branded as SimRaceWay Performance Center and aims to combine real and virtual racing as Ignite is hoping for synergy effects for the physics developments of their new title as well. The racing school offers over 70 vehicles to choose from and is now extended by a choice of simulators, giving interested customers the chance to try out their skills in a danger-free environment first before going for the real thing. The sim facility consists of 12 VisionRacer VR3 Black Label racing rigs, equipped with Logitech G27 steering wheels. Below are a bunch of photos showing off the new facility, also present is Indy 500 winner Dan Wheldon who’s assisting Ignite Skill with his real-life racing experience. |

Simraceway – Preview Videos
|
The Simraceway title uses Image Space Incorporated’s gMotor 2 engine to
create a free to play online racing title that is suited towards
organized online competition. As its common with free-to-play online
games, some of the title’s base content is completely free while
additional content can be bought for a fee. The initial announcement also included a statement regarded laser-scanned tracks, it remains to be seen whether or not that applies to all tracks in the game. A laser-scanned version of the Nürburgring Nordschleife is something even iRacing has not been able to deliver yet so sim racers shouldn’t get their hopes up too much that this will apply to all tracks.
Even with the limited info we have so far, the concept behind the title is interesting. Looking at the planned prices for the content items, the Simraceway game is aiming for much lower content prices than iRacing, the quality of the content items could differ a lot though if the content is produced by third party developers instead of in-house production that iRacing uses. Below are three preview videos of the closed beta showing off the Audi R15 LMP1 car, a Mclaren Formula One racer as well as the Mclaren MP4-12 supercar at Zandvoort & Long Beach. Keep in mind that the title is still very much in beta mode so everything seen should be taken with a grain of salt. |
