Fanatec has shipped out the first examples of their brand new CSR Elite Wheel to community testers and the first batch of reviews is now becoming available.

Below are the first to reviews by sonic, UKOGjonboy & kangal333, showing off the brand new wheel in full detail. Furthermore, Amar212 has released a very extensive written review of the wheel over at GTPlanet.

The CSR Elite is Fanatec’s first wheel that uses the brand-new developed base that will also power the upcoming Clubsport wheel base that is aimed at PC users.

The CSR Elite is primarily aimed at console users, being compatible to both the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 and offering most of the pro features the Clubsport wheel will offer.

Fanatec – CSR Elite Production Started

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Following the successful launch of the Forza Motorsport CSR Wheel, Fanatec is kicking into higher gear as the production of the CSR Elite wheel has officially been started.

The CSR Elite is the first Fanatec wheel to use the company’s all-new base that has been in development for over 1.5 years.

Unlike the CSR wheel base that will be launched later and is primarily aimed at PC users, the CSR Elite comes with Fanatec’s trademark cross-compatibility including Microsoft’s Xbox 360.

Fanatec will be taking pre-orders for the CSR Elite once they´re ready to be shipped, the company hopes to have them ready in time for Christmas.

In related news, Fanatec is also pushing to expand their global reach as the company is currently busy setting up their Japan operation as Japanese sim racers will soon be able to order Fanatec’s line of hardware products.

SRT – Fanatec Gamescom Interview

Sunday, September 18, 2011

The guys over at InsideSimRacing.tv have released the next part of their Gamescom 2011 coverage as Andreas Nie sat down with Fanatec’s Thomas Jackermeier for a quite extensive interview.

The interview mainly centers around Fanatec’s upcoming ClubSport Elite Wheel that will bring simulation-grade hardware to the Xbox 360. Unlike the ClubSport Wheel base that is aimed primarily at PC gamers, the Elite version had to sacrifice some features for the sake of console compatibility, giving it the advantage of being the only upper market wheel to be compatible to all three major systems though.

Even though the Elite version does not come with the quick-release mechanism of the ClubSport base, Thomas shows off that Elite owners will still be able to replace the wheel rim, albeit with a little less comfort and choice of rims involved.

The video also includes some new footage of the custom-made Audi A1 Clubsport Quattro wheel that was shown off at the VW & Audi Wörthersee meeting back in June, the first public appearance of the ClubSport Wheel base.

Fanatec CSR – Initial Impressions

Monday, June 20, 2011

If Forza 4 was one of the most notable previews at E3, then the Fanatec CSR and Elite steering wheels can be attributed to its appeal.

Thanks to Thomas Jackermeier, the CEO of Fanatec, I got the chance to try out the CSR wheel. To get the best experience possible, Thomas recommended picking a muscle car on Expert mode.

The initial impression of the wheel was above my expectations and can easily give a Logitech G27 a run for its money.

The quality of the materials made the wheel look and feel solid, with buttons ergonomically placed and a steering wheel thickness that inspires confidence.

Suede from the GT3 RS has been replaced by plastic and alacantra, making this more comfortable to hold than its predecessor, even when you either collide into something or run into opposite lock situations.

The responsiveness of the feedback made it easy to place a torquey car, such as the Mercury Cougar, into any corner with precision. There simply wasn’t a dead spot with this wheel at all, even when I tried to upset the car utilizing Fanatec’s new emergency break or downshifting improperly.

The car was easy to catch in most circumstances (consider that Forza 4 isn’t that far off from a sim racing experience).

A full review for both wheels will be coming soon. Until then, here are a few teasers from E3 to help you get through your week.

Fanatec Forza Motorsport CSR Wheels

Sunday, June 19, 2011

Last week, Fanatec unveiled their brand new Forza Motorsport CSR & CSR Elite Wheels. As usual, the SRT guys were on site to give the prototypes a try and Darin Gangi is sharing his initial impressions of the wheels below.

By: Darin Gangi

As usual, Thomas Jackermeier the CEO of Fanatec had some big surprises in store for us this year at E3. I had actually heard about the CSR Elite wheel months ago as Thomas and I talk frequently. Not only had I heard about this wheel, I tried a prototype of it last year while he was here for E3 2010. He brought a version of it for us to evaluate and test for him. (I hope I don’t get in trouble for saying that)

The wheel is not going to come cheap. We tried to squeeze a price out of Thomas, but he wouldn’t give an exact figure. If I had to put a price tag on it, I would say at least $500 for the wheel by itself without pedals. There was a mention of $700 on the show floor, but that was not confirmed and may have included pedals and a shifter.

The build quality is amazing and so is how it looks esthetically. The main shaft mechanism is very similar to what you would find in a Frex wheel and it’s referred to as a worm drive. The biggest difference between this CSR Elite and the Frex wheel is the size.. Fanatec is doing it in half the size with the same amount or maybe more precision.

It’s branded in Forza motorsport colors and is Xbox 360, PC and PS3 compatible. It has a joystick and all the buttons you would find on an Xbox controller. The wheel is approximately 13’ in diameter with wheel that’s made of a hard plastic with rubber grips at the points that you would normally handle a wheel.

I really don’t have enough time with the wheel to give a proper evaluation of it.. I can say this.. It is one of the smoothest steering mechanisms in all of sim racing. The Force Feedback is very strong while being precise.

The location of the paddle shifters were placed in close proximity to your hand for positive shifts and are similar in size to what you might find on a G27. One of my complaints with the current Fanatec line of wheels is the paddle shifter or button,. This is no longer the case. This wheel and the standard CSR have a much better paddle shifting system.

We will have more on this wheel and the rest of the line up in our E3 Fanatec special report that will be out by the end of this week. It will include an interview with some tech guy at Fanatec named “Mr T”. He was quiet a character. Jessica ran into him at the Codemasters booth while we were checking out F1 2011.

Besides the interview, our crew captured some never before seen footage of something that will shock many sim racers. We also got to see the first images of the Clubsport Shifter that we will share with everyone as well.

I’ve included some images from our time with the CSR Elite at E3. Some are 1920 x 1080 and the others aren’t as large unfortunately because I captured them from footage we have of the wheel. We’ll have more on this wheel, the CSR, Clubsport Handbrake and Shifter as well as a special surprise that you’ll have to watch our Fanatec E3 special.
