SimRaceWay – Audi R18 TDI Added
|
Ignite Skill Gaming has added the newest car to their free-to-play SimRaceWay title as the Audi R18 TDI is now available for purchase. Audi’s Diesel LMP challenger that won the 12 Hours of Sebring last Saturday isn’t just the newest addition to the gMotor 2-powered title, it’s also by far the most expensive one. While most add-on cars for SimRaceWay sell for cents or a few dollars, the R18 TDI costs $16 to drive. That makes it more expensive than any content item for iRacing, Junior membership on Project CARS or 20 DLC cars for Forza Motorsport 4. The base content of SimRaceWay is free for everyone to try, giving players access to the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X as well as Mid Ohio & Zandvoort. Additional content is available for purchase with prices ranging from a few cents to several dollars. |
Fanatec ClubSport Shifter – First Photo
|
Fanatec has released a first photo of their ClubSport Shifter unit, letting people know that the development on the shifter is still very much alive and kicking. Following the highly advanced ClubSport wheels, the shifter will be giving sim racers access to a shifting unit that looks to be made of extremely sturdy materials. Like with their latest CSR & ClubSport wheels, Fanatec seems to continuing their push away from plastic, there aren’t anymore details about the features of the new shifter yet. |

Nurburgring racetrack proposed for Las Vegas
|
Germany's Nurburgring is possibly the most famous racetrack in the entire world. Not only does it host racing competitions, but it also provides the ultimate testing grounds for new cars and prototypes - manufacturers from around the world travel to Germany to test their cars. Speedway Motorsports wants to make some of those journeys a little shorter, by building an exact replica of Nurburgring just outside of Las Vegas. The United States has plenty of racetracks of its own - in fact, Speedway operates eight of them - but it doesn't have anything the caliber of Nurburgring, largely considered one of the most difficult racetracks in the world thanks to about 16 miles (26 km) of twisting, hilly terrain. Unlike the enclosed stadium tracks in the US, Nurburgring is integrated into its rolling, wooded surroundings and even has a 12th century castle located inside its perimeter. So, it's like quintessential European countryside bottled up into one of the world's most demanding pieces of asphalt - it's no wonder it is famous the world over. Speedway may not be able to duplicate the history or ambiance of the original racetrack, but it does plan to duplicate the turns and features of the track itself. Its track would be an exact replica of the original, located on 8,000 acres (3237.5 hectares) of land about 10 miles (16 km) from its existing Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The company doesn't have any plans to hold racing events at the proposed track - that's kind of what Las Vegas Speedway does - but the track would take on the role of a test bed for manufacturers and car owners, providing a much closer destination for US-based entities. In a recent interview with Sirius XM Sports, Speedway CEO Bruton Smith said that he's already been in talks with Nevada's governor, the Bureau of Land Management and several German contacts, who are presumably connected to or knowledgeable about the original track. |
If the project gets the go-ahead, Smith and company plan to work closely with German engineers, using photographs, aerial topography and other resources to replicate every curve and hill to a T. Las Vegas seems like the perfect destination for a faux 'Ring. The city already has a history of both motorsports and the cloning of iconic European destinations like the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum. The greater state of Nevada has more public land than any other state except Alaska, so it's not like there's a lack of space. While the dry, hot Nevada desert may contrast the Eifel Mountains where the original Nurburgring is located, it could work well for auto manufacturers. Manufacturers could conceivably use the track for hot-weather testing as well as performance testing. Smith even believes that German manufacturers like Audi and Mercedes-Benz would come overseas to use the track, because a Vegas location would allow for year-round testing, whereas the actual Nurburgring experiences cold, snowy winters. |
Virtual WTCC 2012 Announced
|
Remember the Virtual WTCC? Back in 2008, Simbin, Eurosport & the World Touring Car Championship hosted a sim racing competition based on RACE07, allowing sim racers to fight for the V-WTCC title both from their home and on site at selected WTCC races. Four years later, the concept is restarted as Simbin has announced the 2012 Virtual WTCC in cooperation with Eurosport & RaceRoom Entertainment. Like in 2008, players have the chance to compete either from their home or in the 400m2 gamepark that will be on site at various WTCC races. The Virtual WTCC 2012 will be a points-based hot lap competition but unlike the first edition that was based on the RACE 07 title, V-WTCC 2012 will come with its own free to play title that will allow everyone to join and prove their talent. |
The game developed by Simbin will be released in parts during the 2012 WTCC season, the first part is due to be released in April alongside the launch of the online hot lap competition. While players can race from their home, participation on site at WTCC races is encouraged as players who put down their fastest lap in the gamepark will be receiving double points compared to those racing at home. Detailed rules and regulations will be available shortly as we get closer to the competition launch. |
F1 & Codemasters Extend Licensing Agreement
|
Codemasters has announced an extension of their licensing contract with Formula One, allowing the company to produce fully-licensed F1 titles for multiple years to come. The studio acquired the license in May 2008 and has since then released two F1 titles for handheld devices as well as two full-scale titles for the PC and next-gen consoles – F1 2010 & F1 2011. The series’ next installment, F1 2012, is expected to be released this fall. Aside from that, Codemasters is branching out to new audiences by working on a free-to-play browser-based title called F1 Online The Game as well as a new family-oriented F1 title that is due to be released in late 2012. We got off to a strong start with FORMULA ONE but we harbour ambitions to do much more. FORMULA ONE is front of mind at Codemasters and we give it the focus and attention it deserves. |
We have established close links across the sport and they know that, in Codemasters, they have a great partner, Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens commented. We remain ambitious with our plans and want to take the series forward. We want to take it to new geographies, make it available on new platforms to new audiences. We are taking FORMULA ONE to a new online platform this spring and our portfolio will be extended with a FORMULA ONE experience that will address a younger video game audience later in 2012. Our teams are hard at it, creating world class FORMULA ONE games across multiple genres for players irrespective of location or gaming platform and now, for many years to come. No details on the extended agreement have been published as the duration of the contract is unknown aside from it being a multi-year deal. |
